Age Concern Costa de la Luz Sur
Hi Folks,
Well thankfully it has been a quiet start to this year; we have helped people with hospital visits, loan of wheelchairs and other equipment, and general befriending to people who live alone.
Obviously, we are covered by the data protection act so we don´t talk about individual cases; but we have helped several people who have been affected by a death in the family. Most Spanish people have funeral insurance; the cost of a funeral starts at about 3,000 euros. Age Concern has written an article on "What to do when someone dies" and it will be appearing shortly on the ChiFRA website.
One other thing I should mention is that we were given three motorbility scooters which we were able to distribute through the Chiclana Hogar de Pensionistas. They contacted the local disabled association and three of their members now are using them.
We have been training our merry band of volunteers and they are doing a sterling job; of course we still need more volunteers. Please ring our life line number 634 31 52 89 to ask about becoming a volunteer. You can work as many or few hours as you wish; we are always stretched at weekends as many people lead busy social lives.
For people over 50 who require help or advice, Age Concern Costa de la Luz Sur operate a Lifeline telephone service from 9am until 5 pm, (it is not an emergency service, please dial 112 for emergencies). Our Lifeline telephone number is 634 31 52 89.
We offer advice and information on:-
- Residential Nursing Homes
Health/Nursing Care
Finance and Pensions
Legal Matters
Home Help
Repatriation
Our volunteers can help with
Hospitals/Doctor visits
Home Visits
Shopping
Relief for Carers
Social outings
Befriending/Listening Ear
